I’ve dived in many countries and reefs around the world and nothing compares to diving the Great Barrier Reef. The world’s largest coral reef system composed of over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands stretching for over 2,300 kilometers (1,400 mi), the Great Barrier Reef is hard to beat.
Each dive comes with a high likelihood of reef sharks, turtles, cuttlefish, plus many of the over 1,500 species 1500 different species of tropical fish. And while the fish and turtles are sleeping at night, it’s time for the Giant Trevally, Red Bass and Sharks to come out hunting for their dinner.
There are numerous day trips to the Outer Reef from Cairns, but to truly experience the Great Barrier Reef as a diver, a liveaboard cannot be beaten.
I’ve completed two 3 day-2 night liveaboards with Pro Dive Cairns and will be heading back for another in June as they are such a fantastic company to go diving with.
The best method to really encounter the Great Barrier Reef, watch the sunrise and the sunset over the ocean is to settle in for a couple days. You get substantially more time to relax and enjoy yourself and eventually a longer time for scuba diving and snorkeling. Plus new dive buddies to share the experience with.
Additionally, it is significantly better than day tours or other liveaboard choices. We completed 11 dives, 3 days and 2 nights, or if you are a snorkeler you will get to experience a big variety of great outer reef areas.
ProDive Cairns has 16 exceptional dive spots on 4 various outer reef areas and they check out a number of these sites on each tour. Sites are chosen for their variety and outstanding coral and aquatic life along with great visibility. The same dive spot is seldom dived more than twice.
ProDive Cairns offer PADI Open Water, Advanced and Nitrox Courses. Their dive sites are perfect for the beginner or advanced diver with amazing visibility and minimal currents.
ProDive Cairns provide courtesy pick up and drop off after the liveaboard to hotels within Cairns. Our first day started early with a briefing and breakfast on board. In only a short 3 hours we arrived at the Outer Reef ready for our first dive.
ProDive Cairns caters well to the international tourists traveling Australia with dive instructors from around the world. Ages are varied from early 20’s to those in their 60’s and more.
The water temperature on the Reef is mild year round with wetsuits recommended in winter, but in summer the water temperature is balmy 29 degrees and my wetsuit stayed packed away. All dive equipment is provided plus nitrox at an extra charge.
Food is plentiful, healthy and caters for all dietary requirements. Accommodation is twin share with shared bathrooms. The whole boat is kept clean throughout the dive and the staff is exceptionally well informed and accommodating.
Pro Dive Cairns provides the perfect getaway for diving on the beautiful and diverse Great Barrier Reef.
